(Sonoma County, CA, September 3, 2014) – The newly opened Schroeder Hall, at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center (GMC), will open its inaugural concert series, “Sundays at Schroeder,” on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. with Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen. All tickets for the concert series are $25.
Pohjonen’s is the first of nine performances in the new “Sundays at Schroeder” series, an exploration of musical genres programmed by the GMC’s Co-Executive Director Zarin Mehta. The afternoon concerts feature jazz, instrumental, vocal and world musicians. The programming showcases Schroeder Hall’s intimate acoustics while offering an up-close-and-personal concert experience in the 250-seat venue.
Widely praised for his broad range of repertoire from Bach to Salonen, Pohjonen has attracted great attention as one of the Nordic country’s most talented pianists. His recitals have taken him around the globe, from Hong Kong to London, and Carnegie Hall to Hamburg. Pohjonen was first prize winner of the 2000 International Young Artists Competition and the 2004 Nordic Piano Competition, and his 2010 opening at the Music@Menlo Festival was met with widespread acclaim.
