Three Generations of Artists To Perform¡Viva Andalucía!
Featuring World Premieres and Spanish Favorites
(Sonoma County, CA, October 23, 2014) – Three generations of one prodigious musical family, The Romeros, take the stage of Weill Hall at the Green Music Center (GMC) on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The world-renowned classical guitar quartet, known as “The Royal Family of the Guitar” will make their GMC debut with the upbeat program, ¡Viva Andalucía!, featuring world premieres of works written for them, as well as Spanish favorites by Rodrigo, Albéniz and Sor.
Founded in 1960 by the late Celedonio Romero, the quartet has gained legions of fans throughout their half-century of performance. The New York Times describes them as”the only classical guitar quartet of real stature in the world today; in fact, they virtually invented the format.”
Originally comprised of Celedonio and his sons Celin, Pepe and Angel, The Romeros immigrated to the United States in 1957 when the boys were still in their teens. After Angel left the group in 1990 and Celedonio died in 1996, a third generation of Romero artists was instated to fill their positions – Celin’s son, Celino, and Angel’s son, Lito.
